Favorite Fall Picture Books

by Carolyn | Book Lists, Education, Nature, Older Elementary, Picture Books, Preschool, Read Alouds

It’s fall. Here in South Texas that means the couple trees that change color have a few yellow leaves and the temperature has finally dipped below 90 degrees… at least on some days. We mainly seem to experience autumn through books. So let me share a few...
Bedtime Books with a Big Dose of Fun

Bedtime Books with a Big Dose of Fun

by Carolyn | Baby, Book Lists, For fun, Imagination, Parenting, Picture Books, Preschool, Read Alouds, Toddler

I like my bedtime books to be quiet and sedate. But if you like to add some laughs to your nighttime routine, you won’t want to miss these hilariously fun bedtime books. Your kids will giggle, cuddle, and (hopefully) yawn by the end. I hope you find some new...

Indestructibles: Books Kids (Almost) Can’t Destroy

by Carolyn | Animal books, Baby, Board Books, For fun, Parenting, Picture Books, Preschool, Toddler, Wordless Books

Here it is, all shiny and new, the book I’m going to try to destroy. Just typing that makes me cringe. And why do I want to destroy this book? Well, the name is an inherent challenge: “Indestructibles: Chew Proof, Rip Proof, Nontoxic, 100% Washable.”...
Shape Books that Think Outside the Box (Picture Book Edition)

Shape Books that Think Outside the Box (Picture Book Edition)

by Carolyn | Baby, Book Lists, Education, Imagination, Nonfiction, Picture Books, Preschool, Toddler

A few weeks ago, I introduced you to my favorite board books that teach shapes in creative ways. And those are a great place to start, especially for toddlers. But sometimes your preschoolers need more shape practice as well, and they want real picture books, not...

Shape Books That Think Outside the Box (Board Book Edition)

by Carolyn | Animal books, Baby, Board Books, Book Lists, Education, Preschool, Toddler

Books are such great resources for teaching and reinforcing early learning concepts like shapes, colors, and numbers. But after a couple of kids (or even a couple of weeks reading the same books to one kid), we moms are ready for something a bit more interesting....
Books to Say I Love You

Books to Say I Love You

by Carolyn | Animal books, Baby, Book Lists, Parenting, Picture Books, Preschool

It just thrills me that Valentine’s Day is also International Book Giving Day! Why? Because nothing says “I love you” like a well-chosen book. Here are my top recommendations for books to say I love you to your kids this Valentine’s Day or any...
The Wonderful Things You Will Be

The Wonderful Things You Will Be

by Carolyn | Baby, Imagination, Parenting, Picture Books, Preschool, Read Alouds

Reading with a child is such a beautiful way to express love. The time spent, the cuddles: they show your child there is nothing more important in the world to you right now than they are. Even better is when that book is about the love between a parent and child....

Favorite Board Books to Read Over and Over Again

Favorite Board Books to Read Over and Over Again

by Carolyn | Baby, Board Books, Book Lists, Preschool, Read Alouds, Recommendations, Toddler

Let’s face it, moms. We complain that our toddler wants to hear the same book over and over and over. But that’s usually because it’s a book we can’t stand. But we do the same thing! We have a few books we prefer to read. At least, I know I do!...
ABC Books That Tell A Story

ABC Books That Tell A Story

by Carolyn | Animal books, Board Books, Picture Books, Preschool

Learning the alphabet is a foundational skill for our kids. And ABC books are a great way to teach and solidify the alphabet in your preschooler’s mind. But let’s face it, moms, ABC books can be pretty boring. But alphabet books that tell a story?...

THIS IS NOT MY HAT. (A little picture book humor f THIS IS NOT MY HAT. (A little picture book humor for those in the know.)

I haven't introduced myself recently, so if you're new around here, hello! My name is Carolyn, and I'm a children's author, book-blogger, homeschooling mom to four kids, wife to a pediatrician, proud Texan, and follower of Jesus.

📚I write stories that awaken kids to the wonder in their own lives.

📚And I review books to help you find the right book for your child, knowing that not every book will fit every family. (check my link in bio for a new booklist).

I'm the author of LIBRARY'S MOST WANTED (@pelicanpub) and the Noah Green Junior Zookeeper series (@clearforkpub).

Oh yeah, and this is really not my hat. But thankfully my husband let me borrow it for the photo shoot. If you caught the book reference, let me know in the comments!

Now, tell me a little about you!

One of the books we read today was
📖 Library’s Most Wanted
✏️ Carolyn Leiloglou
🎨 Sarah Pogue

In this sweet picture book, Libby is helping her Aunt as the deputy librarian. Libby is very serious about her job making sure she protects the books, but she soon realizes that maybe a librarian’s job is about more then just protecting the books.

My kids loved it and asked for it to be read again. Always the sign of a great read!

We are so thankful to Carolyn Leiloglou for this awesome picture book! Go give her a follow! @housefullofbookworms
