Have you noticed the plethora of unicorn, well, everything recently? There’s certainly no shortage of unicorn picture books that have come out recently! So, I guess it’s time I weigh in on my favorite unicorn picture books.

Best Unicorn Picture Books

Do You Believe in Unicorns? by Bethanie Deeney Murguia

Is it a unicorn? Or just a horse with a hat? Is it a castle spire, or is that the unicorn’s horn? I love how this book leaves it up to the reader. Believing is seeing!

Unicorn Day by Diana Murry illustrated by Luke Flowers

This fun, rhyming book reminds me of Teddy Bears’ Picnic, but for unicorns! But what happens when someone who’s not a unicorn shows up? This magical book is full of bright, colorful illustrations with a big dose of friendship.

Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima

Kelp has always known she is different from the other narwhals, but, until she swam to shore, she never realized she was a unicorn. Kelp loves her new unicorn friends, but when she misses the ocean, can she find a way to be both a unicorn and a narwhal?

Sophie Johnson, Unicorn Expert by Morag Hood illustrated by Ella Okstad

Sophie is an expert on unicorns (i.e. all her toys and baby brother), and is eager to instruct the reader on how to care for them. But when a real unicorn joins the gang, will she even notice? Young readers will enjoy seeing what Sophie misses.

UNICORN (and Horse) by David Miles illustrated by Hollie Mengert

Unicorn is extraordinary in all the ways Horse is just ordinary. So that’s why Horse says he doesn’t like Unicorn when he’s really just jealous. But when Unicorn gets kidnapped, there’s only one hero extraordinary enough to save the day!

A Unicorn Named Sparkle by Amy Young

When the unicorn Lucy ordered shows up, he’s not at all what she expected. But, little by little, she learns her goat-like unicorn is a friend she can’t do without.
